Darshanodaya - A guide to philosophy (Dharshan) of Sri Ramanujacharya

Sri Veeraraghava Swamy Temple of Tiruvallur is managed for centuries, by   Hereditary Trustees – H.H.Jeers  of Sri Ahobila Math.  Presently the Temple is under the care and management of HH 46th Jeer, Sriman Satakopa Sri Ranganatha Yatindra Mahadesikan.  This Temple is one  of the 108 Vaishnava Divyadesams. By tradition, these 108 kshetrams are unique and special since the presiding deities have been sung in praise by many of the twelve Alwars.  Two of them,    Thirumangai Alvar  and Thirumazhisai alvar have resonated their deep devotion to Sri Veeraraghavan in their inspiring verses.  The Lord of this temple, Arulmigu Vaidyaveeraraghava Perumal, is compassionate and showers his blessings to everyone visiting Him; His love is inimitable and matchless especially towards His ailing devotees. It is believed that He cures His devotees of  all their diseases. Hence He is praised as Sri Vaidhya Veeraraghava Perumal. The Lord is believed to have appeared before sage Salihotran here rewarding him for his penance and  stayed in this holy place as per his request .

The temple of Arulmigu Vaidyaveeraraghava Perumal, along with His consort Arulmigu Kanakavalli Thaayaar, is situated in the north of  the bountiful and beautiful “Hruth Thaapa Naasini’ – one of the few Tamil Nadu’s largest temple tanks, spread over a 7.5 acres.

Further, Thiruvallur is surrounded by places of divine prominence. Thirumazhisai, Sri Perumbuthur and  Poonamalli, the birthplaces of Thirumazhisai Alwar, Sri Ramanujacharya and  Thirukachi Nambigal as respectivelye very near and around the city of Thiruvallur. Mudhaliyaandan of Pettai, Embar of Madhuramangalam are other devotees of prominence, whose places of birth fence the Punya Sthalam of Thiruvallur.

The grace of the Lord can be enumerated by quoting the example of Vadalur Ramalinga Adigalar, a saint who was cured of an apparently incurable stomach ache by worshipping Sri Veeraraghava Swamy. Tens and thousands of devotees throng this temple every Amavasya and offer prayer by means of taking a dip in the temple tank and tonsuring their head as an offering to the Lord.

Sri Kanakavalli Nayika Sametha Sri Veeraraghavan, also prominently known as Evvul Kidandhan, enjoys daily, fortnightly, monthly and yearly Poojas and  Festivals, well spread out according to Sastras.  In addition, the birth stars of all the Acharyas, starting from the Alwars and other prominent Acharyas, studded by
Sri Ramanuja and Swamy Desika are celebrated with equal respect and devotion.

The Two Brahmothsavams one in Chithrai and the other in Thai are considered exclusive and distinctive from among these festivals.  The Chaitra Brahmothsavam of the present Hey-Vilambi year, begins on 1st of May 2017 and arrangements are made for conducting this festival with usual fervor and devotion. This present Brahmothsavam is more exceptional in the sense that Sri Ramanuja’s 1000th year Thirunakshathram, viz., Chitra Thiruvadirai falls on the same day, 1st May 2017.

As per the advice from Srimad Azhagiyasingar, 46th pontiff and our Hereditary Trustee, Sri Veeraraghava Perumal  temple Devasthanam  have decided to celebrate this combined events in the devasthanam premises at Tiruvallur.

If Sri Veeraraghavan is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient, Sri Ramanuja drew the essence of Vedanta and grouped the real knowledge under his philosophy of Visistadvaita,  He assured every one of us, beyond the caste and creed, that we can reach the Divine feet of the Lord by the simple of
Act of Surrender. Thus, this Acharya’s message is Universal and his 1000th year is significant and
